Prize of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation for essays in the social sciences

The idea of awarding a prize for sociological works comes from Prof. Dr. Erwin K. Scheuch, who in December 1981 applied for support and funding from the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, which granted the application. Since then, German and English language articles from the fields of sociology, political science, economic and social history and, since 2011, media and communication studies from German language journals have been annually awarded in order to increase the international significance and visibility of specialist articles from the German-speaking world. The first prize is now endowed with EUR 1,500, the second with EUR 1,000 and the third with EUR 500.
