Anniversary celebration „100 years of sociology in Cologne“
On 12 October 2019, institute members, former professors, staff and friends celebrated the 100th anniversary of sociology in Cologne in the auditorium building of the university. After the welcoming addresses by Prof. Michael Wagner from the ISS and by the Dean of the Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences, Prof. Ulrich Thonemann, PhD, the invited guests could follow a panel discussion on the topic "Cologne School(s) and the Future of Sociology". Dr. Nicole Hiekel and Prof. Clemens Kroneberg from the ISS, Prof. em. Renate Mayntz, Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, Prof. Hans-Peter Müller, board member of the German Sociological Association and Professor of Sociology at the Humboldt University in Berlin, and Dr. Eckard Kämper, programme director of the German Research Foundation (DFG) discussed the topic.
Afterwards, a poster exhibition on the history of the institute could be admired with finger food and live music. Film excerpts from television programmes with well-known former sociology professors, which were shown in a permanent loop in an auditorium, also invited visitors to take a journey into the past of Cologne's sociology. Employees and former teachers spent a convivial evening in Cologne celebrating the long-standing existence of sociological research and teaching.
